Posted: Friday, Nov 16th, 2007

ASHTON — The Ashton Village Board met in regular session on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Ashton Village Hall.

Two representatives from the firm Baxter and Woodmen outlined the services they offer in regards to water rate analysis, water tower painting and water quality issues. The representatives were unable to estimate what costs would be until they were more clear on what information the village was looking to obtain. No action was taken on their presentation. Mayor Don Ross said he would be in contact with them.

Village resident Bill Dalton spoke to the board about the continued issue of engine braking at the north edge of town. He suggested that a village limits sign be posted to inform offenders of where the actual village limits are. The board will take his suggestion under consideration and get back to him.

Eric and Lynn Hetzler of the Ashton Computer Center requested that the board adopt AshtonUSA.com as their official website for a $250 donation,. promising to link the web browsers to an ordinance site, post village notices and publish village board minutes verbatim. The board agreed to pay the $250 annual fee and adopt AshtonUSA.com as their official website.

After meeting with the Community Economic Development committee, Ross suggested that the board reapply for a grant to help fund the project sewer project next year.

In other business the board approved the purchase of two new tires at the cost of $1,150 for the backhoe. They also approved an ordinance to establish a separate bank account for the purpose of collecting funds and donations for the exclusive use of repair, maintenance and refurbishing the Mills and Petrie Building.

Zoning commissioner Cameron Mannheim told the board that he was satisfied with the progress on the Bubrick property. Further discussion revealed a possibility of other violations on that property that the village will pursue.

The village clerk introduced the Annual Levy Ordinance for the board to examine. The board will vote on the ordinance at the next meeting.

The board adjourned to executive session for the purpose of discussing pending litigation.
