Village board denies proposed pay increase for elected officials

ASHTON — The Ashton Village Board voted down a proposal by Mayor John Martinez to increase elected officials pay for the next term. Martinez proposed that the trustee pay schedule be adjusted so that they would receive $125 for each meeting and $50 for committee meetings. The trustees currently receive $150 for each board meeting and no extra for committee meetings. Martinez also proposed that the mayor’s monthly pay increase from $400 to $500.
