Jake Kaecker attempts to free himself for the escape on Friday.

ASHTON — AFC wrestler Jake Kaecker qualified for the IHSA State Wrestling Tournament in Champaign held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 – 16.

On Thursday, Kaecker wrestled Stephon Gray of Chicago Corliss and won by a score of 5 – 1. This was Jake’s 100th victory of his high school career.

On Friday morning, he defeated Brett Meyer of Manito (Midwest Central) by a score of 7 – 3.

Then on Friday evening Kaecker wrestled Terry Neubeck of Herscher and won 6 – 5.

The win put him in the championship match on Saturday night.

Kaecker ended up losing the championship match to Zach Nelson of Mercer County by a pin.

Kaecker has been an excellent representative for AFC by displaying great humbleness and sportsmanship throughout his wrestling career.

We are very proud of Jake for his second place finish at state and for all of his hard work! Good luck to Jake and his future endeavors!
