FRANKLIN GROVE — The AFC Raiders football team had a tough time controlling the passing attack of the Freeport Aquin Bulldogs and fell 42-12 Friday night at Mel Barron field in Franklin Grove. The Bulldogs, ranked fifth in the state of Illinois, passed early and often, racking up 226 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

The Raiders jumped out to a quick first quarter lead, just 12 seconds into the game, when Andrew LeFevre ran for an 80-yard touchdown around the outside end of the offensive line. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs countered that with a 63-yard drive of their own and took a 7-6 lead midway through the quarter.

Then, the Bulldogs reeled off four more scores before the Raiders could answer again in the third quarter on a 8-yard run by Jake Kaecker to bring the score the 35-12. One more fourth quarter score by the Bulldogs brought the final to 42-12.

“Tonight was a tough game,” said Coach Brad Winterland. “Statistically we had a good game, over 300 yards of offense, but we couldn’t find the end zone enough. LeFevre and Kaecker both ran for over 100 yards, usually that is a good sign. But when you play one of the best teams in the state, you need more big plays on offense or a tougher defense. We couldn’t find either tonight.”

LeFevre finished with 139 yards on 24 carries and Jake Kaecker amassed 125 yards on 25 carrries. Also contributing was Paul Rod with 10 yards and Nick McClanahan with nine yards. Troy Mairs led the receivers with 24 yards.

The loss brings the Raiders record to 3-3 on the season. This Friday the Raiders travel to Orangeville to play at 7 p.m.
