Fourth quarter rally falls short for AFC Raiders against Lions

Posted: Wednesday, Dec 19th, 2012

ASHTON — After falling behind by nine points to the LaMoille/Ohio Lions, the AFC Raiders boy’s basketball team went on a 12-2 run early in the fourth quarter to take the lead by one point.

However, the Lions countered with a six point rally and stretched their lead out and ended up winning by a score of 68-60.

“We’ve got to learn how to close out games that are close,” said Coach Russ Zick. “We are committing to many turnovers at key moments in the game. If we want to be a winning team, we need to perform like it when it matters the most.”

Troy Mairs led the Raiders in scoring with 20 points, Ermir Ramadani scored 14, Bret Gittleson added nine, points and Nick McClanahan chipped in eight points.

Defensively, Nick McClanahan ended the night with six steals and Paul Rod also swiped five steals. Troy Mairs grabbed 13 rebounds and Ermir Ramadani pulled down nine rebounds.
