ASHTON — The AFC boy’s basketball brought their regular season to a close during senior night on Friday night in Ashton. The Raiders were hosting the #2 ranked in the state, conference leading Freeport Aquin Bulldogs.
AFC opened the game under the defensive pressure of the Bulldogs and failed to score on their first 10 possessions and quickly found themselves down 16-0. The Raiders ended up trailing after the first quarter 23-4 and 38-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs stretched their lead to as much as 35 before the final score of 79-46.
The Raiders were led on offense by Troy Mairs with 10 points and other contributors were Ermir Ramadani with seven points and Nick McClanahan with six points.
Defensively, Bret Gittleson and Yuriy McPheron led the team with six rebounds each and Matt Gendusa had five. McClanahan and Gittleson also had three steals a piece.
The loss drops the Raiders regular season record to 9-18, and they begin the post season tournament play this week in Polo versus. Milledgeville.
