ASHTON — The AFC Lady Raiders varsity volleyball team defeated Orangeville 26-24, 25-14 on Sept. 25.
For the Lady Raiders, Lea Koning had one ace, 14 service points and six assists. Kayla Colwell had three aces, 10 service points, and four digs. Megan Knight had 10 service points. Lexie Fore had six kills and one block. Sarah Matson had five kills and two blocks. Emily Mammen had four digs and Marissa Asbury had three digs. Cassidy Koning had two digs and one block. Mikayla Hambley had one block.
In game one Orangeville took a 5-0 lead. Then Lea Koning stepped up to the service line and when she left, AFC had an 8-6 lead. Lexie Fore had some great kills in that run. Late in the game AFC had a 19-16 lead until Orangeville added six straight service points behind some unforced AFC errors. Orangeville was leading 24-21 with a side out for AFC making it 24-22 in Orangeville’s favor. Emily Mammen stepped to the line and reeled off four straight service points. Sarah Matson finished the game with a kill to the corner of the court. In game two, AFC opened the game wide open after the score was 11-11. Kayla Colwell stepped to the line and had seven straight service points with two aces. Megan Knight and Sarah Matson had some great attacks in that run. All night Cassidy Koning, Kayla Colwell and Marissa Asbury played great defense. AFC was able to answer everything Orangeville could bring with great defense. It was a great team effort overall.
In the fresh/soph game Orangeville defeated AFC 20-25, 22-25.
For AFC Kristen Bartlett had three aces, 10 service points and four digs. Emira Ramadani had two aces and one block. Marissa Sanford had two aces, three digs and two assists. Katie Sondgeroth had eight service points and one assist. Melissa Murre had two kills. Lauren Meurer had one kill and three digs. Allison Prestegaard had one kill and one block.
A close night for the AFC Lady Raiders. Two close games with great serves on both teams. Kristen Bartlett, Ermira Ramadani and Marissa Sanford all racked up aces, while Katie Sondgeroth got many service points. Melissa Murre, Lauren Meurer and Allison Prestegaard each had kills through the match. Sanford and Sondgeroth assisted those kills. Our defenders for the night at the net were Prestegaard and Ramadani, each with one block.
