Lady Raiders finish 4-1 at River Ridge

ASHTON — The AFC Lady Raiders finished 4-1 in the River Ridge Tournament.

AFC opened with a win over Scales Mound. Sarah Matson was clicking on all cylinders this game. Defensively she had nine blocks and offensively she tallied five kills. Kayla Colwell was in double digits for digs with 10. Colwell and Lea Koning led at the service line with a combined 12 service points and five aces.

In the second match of the day, AFC defeated Polo in the first game against some good serves from Megan Knight. Sarah Matson registered nine block for the second match in a row. Cassidy Koning and Matron benefited from Lea Koning and Emily Mammen’s sets with a combined nine kills.

In the third match of the Round Robin tournament, AFC faced off with the AFC JV. Megan Knight and Kayla Colwell combined for 22 service points. Cassidy Koning was the kill leader with four kills and she also had four stuffed blocks. Colwell also picked up seven digs. Marissa Asbury had a great game passing and serve receiving that kept the offense flowing. Emily Mammen did a nice job of spreading the sets around to her attackers.

In the fourth match of the day, AFC defeated host River Ridge. AFC was led by Lea Koning at the service line with 11 points. She dished out seven assists to keep that serve alive. Sarah Matson continued to dominate the net with seven stuffed blocks. Kayla Colwell registered double digit digs recording 10 of them.

In the championship match, AFC battled the number one team in the tournament, Pearl City, staying close all the way through. Kalyn Murre, Emily Mammen and Cassidy Koning combined for 28 service points and three aces. Mammen had a great match with nine service points, two aces, three digs and seven assists. Sarah Matson and Cassidy Koning could only manage five blocks against Pearl City. AFC finished 4-1 for the tournament.
