FRANKLIN GROVE — James Murray O’Brien, 83, of Franklin Grove, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at the Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 17, 1929 in Dundee, the son of Murray and Mary (Mullarky) O’Brien. He had been a truck driver for 62 years, most recently driving for Maplehurst Farms.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend of many.
He enjoyed trucking, restoring cars, playing cards, and was known for telling many jokes.
He married Donna Payne on June 14, 1952 in Harmon. She preceded him in death June 21, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Bella McQueen O’Brien; a grandson Timothy O’Brien, brothers William and Russell O’Brien; and sisters Marge Phoenix, Dorothy Nelson and Mary Juby.
He is survived by eight daughters, Mary Jane (Keith) Shaw of Amboy, Linda (Peter) Bagnuolo of Wheaton, Bev (Tom) Lally of Sebastian, Fla., Janet (Brett) Mariani of Bloomington, Pat (Joe) Lachat of Franklin Grove, Karen (Tom) Cecchetti of Bolingbrook, Diane (Jeff) Roop of Franklin Grove and Jackie (Jeff) James of Marengo, and one son Dan (Chris) O’Brien of Dixon; 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Fran Hume, of Madison, Wis.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday Nov. 26, at 10:30 a.m. in St Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. John Gow officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
Visitation was held on Sunday Nov. 25, at the Holloway Center at St Patrick Catholic Church from 3 - 7 p.m. A memorial has been established to Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center
