ASHTON — The Raiders boys basketball team fell behind early in the opening minutes of a conference matchup against the South Beloit Sobos and struggled to catch up during the first three quarters. Trailing 48-40 entering the fourth period, the Raiders went on a run late in the game to bring the deficit to only two points with four seconds remaining.
However, after a last second shot by Nick McClanahan ricocheted off the rim at the buzzer, the Raiders fell by a score of 66-64.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Troy Mairs with 24 points, and who followed in scoring by Ermir Ramadani with 11 points, Matt Gendusa with nine, and Nick McClanahan with eight points. Bret Gittleson led the team with five assists.
Mairs also led the team in rebounds with 13, Ramadani collected nine boards, and Gittleson added five.
The loss drops the Raiders season record 7-14 and conference record to 1-8.
