AFC Elementary School to offer breakfast program

ASHTON The AFC School Board approved the fee structure for the 2013-14 school yea recently. Fees will remain the same as in the current year. The board also approved the offering of a breakfast program for the elementary school in the 2013-14 school year following state recommendations by the number of qualified students in the district. The plan will be reviewed to access its feasibility at the beginning of 2014.

The board discussed at length the County Facilities Sales Tax which will once again be on the ballot in April. The board will conduct informational meetings at the high school at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 and at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at the middle school. The board hopes to be able to point out the areas in each building that are in need of repair so the public is able to make an informed decision. The public is encouraged to attend.

In other business, the board approved entering a five-year copier/printer lease agreement with RK Dixon, the purchase of a scissor lift for use throughout the district and approved the revisions to Sections 6 and 7 of the board policy.

The following salaried positions were announced for spring sports:

Softball- varsity Jan Cupp and fresh-soph Erin Doughty

Baseball- varsity Greg Cissna and fresh-soph Travis Stauffer

The following volunteer personnel were approved:

Softball Positions: assistant Marisa Wren volunteer

Baseball Positions: assistant Al Meyer varsity volunteer and assistant Kyle McClanahan frosh-spoh Volunteer

High School track position Shea Carpenter

The board approved the resignation from the following: James Jackson varsity wrestling coach, Andy McCannon assistant wrestling coach and Samantha Vivian sophomore volleyball coach

The board also approved the use of district funds to pay for half of the cost of new scoreboards for the softball and baseball fields. The board also approved the cost of erecting the baseball scoreboard. The other half of the scoreboard costs will be borne by baseball funds and private donations.
