James Seeberg

ASHTON — James Larry Seeberg, 80, of Ashton, passed away April 15, 2013 at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He was born July 6, 1932 in Rockford to the late Carl and Pauline (Pundt) Seeberg.

After graduating from East High School in Rockford, he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years in the Korean War as a radio operator.

He married Arlene Buman on Aug. 18, 1956 in Galena and was happily married for 56 years. He served on the Ashton town board, the Ashton Fire Department for several years, 10 years as fire chief. He also served as a St. John’s Lutheran Church Council member and for 28 years on the Lee County Board serving terms both as Finance Chairman and County Board Chairman. He served nine years as Financial Chairman on the Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 1989 after 23 years of service.

Jim will always be remembered for his humor and wit, often referring to himself as “sweet, nice and lovable.” He loved community involvement and service.

He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene, of Ashton; daughters; Cynthia (Dan) Torrisi of Belvidere and Wendy Seeberg of Amboy; his two precious grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Williams of Forreston and Alexandra Torrisi of Belvidere; one sister, Marcia Fick of Addison,;brother-in-law Ronald Wicks of Camarillo, Calif; and many nieces and nephews whose company he greatly enjoyed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Lori and his sister Pat.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 18 from 6-8 p.m. at the Beverage- Lyons Family Funeral Home in Ashton. Funeral service will be Friday, April 19 at 11a.m.at St John’s Lutheran Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Jonathon Black officiating. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment to follow at the Ashton Cemetery.
