FRANKLIN GROVE —The Franklin Grove Casey’s General Store began offering diesel fuel for over-the-road vehicles last week. In the first several hours after the pumps became operational, the store had sold more fuel than upper level management had estimated would be sold in a month.
Offering diesel fuel locally has been a long-awaited development. Several years ago when Casey’s installed the overhead awning village officials asked the Ankeny, Iowa based central office to offer diesel, but it didn’t happen. On other occasions customers supported petition drives to ask the headquarters to make the make diesel available, also to no avail.
The wait is over. This time, with the encouragement of Franklin Grove store manager Julie Johnson and a relentless weekly phone assualt by Brian Atkinson of Atkinson Trucking, the store now provides diesel.
Having diesel fuel available opens the opportunity for the numerous truckers and trucking companies in the Ashton and Franklin Grove area to fuel up close to home. Local residents who have avoided pickups and cars operating on diesel can now buy such vehicles, knowing fuel can be purchased close to home also.
On May 18 the Franklin Grove Casey’s store will be celebrating the new addition to their line of service products with drawings for door prizes and free hot dogs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Franklin Grove Mayor Bob Logan had this to say when hearing Casey’s now has diesel, In a time when there are few things going well in the economy, this is a very positive note for our folks with diesel pick-ups and for our truck drivers who weekely spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars on fuel. Our thanks to Julie and the staff at Franklin Grove Casey’s, and to Brian Atkinson for his persistence.
