Anna and Mikey

ASHTON — Ashton’s Anna Richter has recently been diagnosed with Metastic Malignant Melanoma. For those of you who’s life has not been touched by Anna, here is her story.

Anna is the daughter of Bernard (Stub) Richter of Ashton and Tammy Powell of Rochelle. She was born on June 29, 1983. A few years later, she was no longer an only child as her brother, Adam, was born.

Anna attended St. John’s Pre-school and followed by13 years in Ashton schools. During her school years she was involved in many school sporting activities including softball, basketball and volleyball.

She started working part-time at Crest Foods in the summer of 2000. After she graduated high school in 2001 she became a full time employee. Anna enjoys her job as a forklift driver.

Anna joined the Ashton Fire Department as a volunteer fireman in October 2001. She became an EMT and has been certified in Fire Fighter 2. Through the years she has worked her way up from volunteer to lieutenant and she recently became captain in the department.

On April 13, 2005, Anna was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Michael. He is the light of her life. When Michael started preschool in 2008, she took a pro-active roll as a parent by becoming a member of the St. John’s preschool board. She maintained this position until the spring of 2013. She was a key supporter of the annual aluminum can drive for the pre-school.

Anna has also helped coach numerous summer softball teams.

Anna is a huge part of this community and shows her support by volunteering in any way she can.

The Ashton Fire Department, along with many friends, family and community members will host a benefit to help defray medical expenses on Nov. 16. Please watch for more details on this family fun event to be released as information becomes available.

Anyone interested in becoming a soldier in Anna’s Army and helping with the benefit in any way can contact Ed Baylor at 815-973-6572.
