ASHTON — The AFC Lady Raiders varsity volleyball team was defeated 25-22, 12-25 by Forreston on Sept. 19.
For the Lady Raiders, Cassidy Koning had four service points, three kills, three digs and two blocks. Lexie Fore had four kills and Krista Beach had two kills. Kayla Colwell had nine digs while Kalyn Murre and Lauren Meurer each added two. Katie Sondgeroth and Lea Koning each had five assists and Emily Mairs had two blocks.
AFC had seven missed serves in game one, that was the difference in the game. Forreston took advantage of those miscues. In game two, AFC still suffered the effects of game one. Forreston dominated the entire second game.
In the sophomore game, AFC defeated Forreston 19-25, 25-21, 25-21.
For AFC, Mackenzie Wolf had five aces, 14 service points and eight assists. Lena Peterson had two aces and 16 service points. Lexi Meurer had two aces and four digs. Jade Brown had six kills and Grace Friday had six digs and eight assists. Bryce Gittleson and Laci Meurer each had four kills and four digs. Kady McDonald had two blocks.
With the Raiders intensity and teamwork, they took it to three games to pull off a win against Forreston.
The AFC freshman Lady Raiders and Forreston tied in their game, 25-18 for an AFC win and 25-22 for a Forreston win.
For the Lady Raiders, Cristina Boyd had two aces and 10 service points. Sam Rockwood had two aces, five service points and two assists. Alanna Thomas had two aces and four digs. Bryce Gittleson had one ace and four kills. Laci Meurer had one ace, four kills and one block. Addison Wetzel had two kills and Grace Friday and Aurora Wiegand each had two assists.
Better communication and more movements on the court, along with time running out, brought the freshman Lady Raiders their first tie of the season against Forreston.
