Dog carting demo and training part of Anna Richter benefit

ASHTON Sherry Harris and friends from Shalay Kennel, will be giving dog carting rides at the Anna Richter Benefit for a $1 per ride donation. She will also offer to train a persons dog to pull a cart for a $25 fee. Dogs must be brought to the benefit on Saturday, Nov. 16. She will show people what you can do with your dog. All proceeds will be donated to the Anna Richter Benefit.

The Benefit for Anna Richter will begin at noon with registration for the 5k walk/run, the walk/run steps off at 1 p.m. with transport options for children who wish to participate but dont want to walk. Registration forms for the walk are available at several locations in town, including the bank and the Gazette. Or by contacting Denise Coffman at denisedcoffman@gmail.com.

Kidz zone will be held in the heated tent near the Crest Foods parking lot at 502 Brown St. For just $5 per child you can enjoy face painting, crafts, cookie decorating, a bouncy house, an obstacle course, games and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Smoke House will be here to teach children how to escape a burning home. Kidz zone events will go from 2 - 5 p.m.

There will also be a petting zoo and dog cart rides provided by Sherry Harris and Shaley Kennels for $1 each. Harris will also be offering dog training sessions for just $25 with all proceeds going to Anna.

For older kids, a gaming area will be set up. If you like playing Magic The Gathering cards or other board type games be sure to check it out. This area is for junior high kids and older.

Bingo will be held at the Ashton Lions Center starting at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

Firefighters will be competing in a firefighters obstacle course throughout the day. Cost is $10 for participation.

There will be a bags tournament beginning at 2 p.m. Cost to participate is $10 per team.

The bake sale will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a wide variety of choices for taste buds of every kind. There will also be bake sale items available at the Lions Center during Bingo. Be sure and check it out.

There will also be some fancy desserts and pies on the live auction. A silent auction will be held throughout the day.

Five bands are set to entertain during the day also - Tristan Bushman will play from noon - 1:30. Followed by Burn n Bush from 1:30 3 p.m., Snydley Whiplash from 3:30 5 p.m., The Lizzy Neal Band frin 7 8:30 p.m. and Vodka Boys from 9 10:30 p.m.. A dance contest will be held at 8:30 p.m.

A silent auction and 50/50 drawing will be ongoing throughout the day. The live auction will begin at 5 p.m. Items that are available are: 50 inch Flat Screen TV, autographed football by Sean Considine, autographed cookbook by Ree Drummond Pioneer Women, autographed Book by Jodi Picoult, Ice Hogs tickets, Cubs tickets, Blackhawk tickets, Brewers tickets, two rooms for one night stay at Barnicopia, one night stay at Chicago Essex Inn, digital camcorder, Nook HD basket, one night stay Route 66 and four tickets to Donnie Bs Comedy Club, two tickets St Louis Cardinals game, one night stay at White Pines lodge, Day at the Races Arlington Racecourse and the list goes on and on and on. The donation committee has done a great job and donations are still rolling in.

The hog roast dinner will be served from 5 - 9 p.m. Tickets are available throughout town or from committee members. They are $10 for adults and $5 for those 12 and under. Kid friendly options will be available. Cliffs Donuts Plus More will be onsight that day - offering a variety of options.

The beer garden will open at noon.
