The Ashton area was hit hard on Sunday morning with snow fall measuring up to nearly 8 inches. Add to that high winds and plummeting temperatures to pretty much bring the area to a standstill. Pictured at right, the drifts along Fourth Street are nearly 4 feet high. Major roads were passable on Tuesday, but temperatures continued to be below zero until later in the afternoon. Record breaking temperatures combined with high winds saw wind chilll temperatures at near -45 degrees. Christmas vacation was extended for local schools by a two days and even Crest Foods employees were given a reprieve if they couldn’t make it in.
