THE Nachusa Grasslands has been a restoration and conservation success story for the past 25 years for The Nature Conservancy in Illinois. The Nachusa Grasslands are composed of 3,100 acres located between Dixon, Oregon and Franklin Grove. The grasslands are home to 700 plant species and numerous birds, insects and reptiles.
In the fall of 2014, the Nachusa Grasslands will welcome some new residents. Bison will be introduced in the grasslands, approximately 30-50 of various ages and sexes. Eventually the herd is expected to grow to between 110 and 150. The plan is to have about one bison per acre.
